Engagement sessions are meant to be FUN and show who YOU are as a couple.
Here are some tips on how to incorporate what you enjoy as a couple into your session.

1. Plan it out with your photographer
Chat with your photographer prior to your session. Make sure they get a glimpse of who you are as a couple so they can gather ideas for your session. I love meeting my couples for coffee/tea/a beer to get to know them. Your photographer should feel like a friend by the end of the session! They will be capturing some of the biggest moments of your life - don't be afraid to show us who you really are.
2. Don't overdress
Unless you are going for a fancyyyy night out in the city vibe - just wear clothes that you are comfortable in. Maybe step it up from the normal Sunday morning sweats attire, but don't go crazy. If you are uncomfortable in your outfit during your session, it will most likely show in the photos. Dress like YOU!
3. Bring props to your session
We aren't talking about the typical "he asked, she said finally" props.
We mean to bring things that mean something to both of you. If you spend your weekends eating take-out and building legos or playing board games, build this into your session! Meet at a park, lay out a picnic, and play some cards while your photographer captures this moment.
4. Act like yourselves
Does your fiance' spend most of his time telling really bad dad jokes and throwing puns into every conversation? I want to hear it all. Are forehead kisses a staple when you are together? Are you big on PDA? Let those lips do their thing. Unless your photographer is posing you intentionally, just. be. yourselves. When you get your photos back, you want them to look like you - not like the random family that comes in a store-bought frame. (aka Pheobe's dad - if you get this then you are my people)
5. Go somewhere meaningful to your relationship
Met at a dive bar on your first date and continued to go on dates there while you passed hours in conversation? Let's incorporate that into your session. Go have a beer at your favorite date night place, grab a burger at your favorite post-movie joint, or get coffee at your usual Saturday morning haunt. Picking a location doesn't have to be rocket science - just think about where you spend the most time as a couple when you aren't at home.
Speaking of your home...in-home sessions are super cute & cozy too!
The bottom line is...your engagement session will probably be the last time you have photos taken before the next big step in life. Make sure they document who you are as a couple in this moment of time. How fun will it be showing your grandkids the photos of you two riding bikes and eating pizza outside the place you met?!
