If you’ve spent any amount of time on Pinterest or TikTok while planning your wedding, you’ve probably felt it.....that quiet pressure that your day is supposed to look a certain way. Endless flower installations. Perfectly styled tablescapes. Private estates that look like they belong in Italy (they probably are). Champagne towers, multi-day celebrations, custom dance floors, and designer gowns that cost more than a used car.
Here’s the part no one really says out loud:
Most of the weddings going viral online are luxury weddings with six-figure (or higher) budgets.
They are stunning. They are aspirational.
And they are not the standard.
If your budget doesn’t fall into the high five-figure or six-figure range, it doesn’t mean you’re “doing it wrong.” It means you’re planning a real wedding for real people and that deserves just as much excitement and intention.
Here's a few thoughts I have about what is currently being portrayed in the wedding industry.
The Wedding Industry Rarely Labels What You’re Actually Looking At
One of the biggest frustrations for brides is that inspiration photos aren’t clearly labeled. A table setting you saved might look “simple,” but what you don’t see are:
- Custom linens
- Specialty rental chairs
- Designer florals flown in
- A full styling team
- Multiple planners are coordinating the look
That “effortless” wedding on your feed likely had a team of professionals and a massive budget behind it. Without context, it’s easy to assume you’re supposed to recreate it and can easily feel discouraged when the numbers don’t add up.
There is nothing wrong with loving luxury wedding inspiration. The problem is thinking that’s the baseline.
A Budget Wedding Is Not a “Less Than” Wedding
Somewhere along the way, the word “budget” started to feel like a bad thing. As if it means cutting corners, settling, or missing out. In reality, a budget wedding simply means:
- You’re being intentional
- You’re making choices based on real life
- You’re prioritizing what matters most to you
A wedding planned within your means is not a compromise, it’s a reflection of your values.
A $15,000 wedding that feels like you will always feel better than a $60,000 wedding that feels forced and might leave a financial strain on your new marriage.
DIY Weddings Can Be Meaningful, Not “Cheap”
DIY doesn’t mean chaotic or thrown together. It means: Personal, Creative, Thoughtful, Rooted in community through family & friends.
Some of the most meaningful weddings are the ones where:
Friends help set up tables
Family brings homemade desserts
A sibling officiates
Decor is collected slowly and intentionally
Locations are chosen based on how you feel, instead of what looks "Pinterest-worthy"
These weddings feel warm. They feel human. They feel like home.
And they photograph beautifully, not because of how expensive they are, but because of the connection and care behind them.
Stop Trying to Recreate a Wedding That Wasn’t Meant for Your Budget
It’s okay to love luxury wedding content. It’s not okay to measure your worth, or the success of your wedding, against it.
Instead of asking, “How do I recreate this exact look?”
Try asking: What do I love about this photo? Is it the mood? The intimacy? The color palette? The lighting?
You can borrow the feeling without copying the price tag.
Jsut some examples:
Love candlelit tables? Use thrifted holders and taper candles.
Love wild florals? Focus on seasonal blooms and greenery.
Love editorial portraits? Choose a photographer whose style captures emotion and connection.
You don’t need the same tools to create the same feeling.
Spend Your Budget on What You’ll Actually Care About Later
This is where couples often find peace: deciding what actually matters to them long-term.
For many brides, that looks like:
- Photography
- Florals
- A meaningful ceremony experience
- Time with loved ones
Instead of spreading your budget thin trying to recreate luxury details, invest in the elements that will still matter years from now.
You won’t remember whether your napkins were imported.
You will remember how your partner looked at you.
You will remember the way your friends laughed during dinner.
You will look at your photos for decades.
Put your money where your heart is, not where Pinterest tells you to.
Your Wedding Is Allowed to Look Like Real Life
Real life includes:
Imperfect weather
Mismatched chairs
Last-minute changes
Help from loved ones
Letting go of a few ideas
And real life is beautiful.
Your wedding doesn’t need to be a production. It needs to be yours.

Final Reminder for Brides in the Planning Spiral
You are not behind.
You are not failing.
You are not missing out because your wedding doesn’t look like a celebrity’s.
You are building a day that reflects your real life, your real love, and your real future.
A DIY wedding can be deeply meaningful.
A budget wedding can be stunning.
A simple wedding can be unforgettable.
The most beautiful weddings aren’t the ones with the biggest budgets...they’re the ones where people feel loved, seen, and celebrated.
And that is always within reach. 🤍
